First question: do you need an EHR?

Most "SimplePractice alternative" lists compare one EHR with another. That's the right comparison if you write progress notes, bill insurance or need treatment plans. If you do, look at the other EHRs, not at us.

But a lot of people who search for SimplePractice alternatives aren't clinicians billing insurance. They are health and life coaches, nutrition and wellness practitioners, cash-pay wellness clinics and group practices whose real pain is outside the chart: enquiries that never get a callback, intake forms that live in email, a team that can't see who is working with whom, or a second and third location that need to run the same way as the first. • You need an EHR if you write clinical documentation, submit insurance claims or need e-prescribing. Stay with SimplePractice or another EHR.
• You need a CRM if your problems are leads, follow-up, intake, scheduling, invoices and coordination across a team or several locations.
• You may need both if you are a clinical group that also runs marketing, intake and HQ operations. Keep the EHR for the chart and use a CRM with a BAA for the rest.

How much does SimplePractice cost?

SimplePractice's pricing page, checked October 2026, lists three monthly plans: Starter at $49, Essential at $79 and Plus at $99 per month. Add-ons include Note Taker at $35 a month and Care Aide at $59 a month. The page shows monthly prices; it didn't show annual prices when we checked. SimplePractice includes a BAA, which you accept when you create your trial account.

JBMOnboard360's prices are on our pricing page. Professional is $79 per user per month billed annually ($99 monthly): client records, scheduling, invoicing, forms, team chat and AI meeting summaries. Business is $399 per location per month billed annually ($499 monthly), with unlimited users, and adds the help desk, the WhatsApp concierge and the lead inbox with follow-ups. Enterprise starts at $349 per location for 10 or more locations, billed annually. A BAA is included on every plan.

For a solo clinician, SimplePractice is cheaper and does more of what a clinician needs. JBMOnboard360 starts to make sense when a team or several locations share client work, or when follow-up and HQ support are the problem.

Who should stay with SimplePractice

• Licensed therapists, counselors, psychologists, dietitians and other clinicians who document care in clinical notes.
• Practices that bill insurance and need claims, ERAs and superbills.
• Solo and small practices where one affordable EHR covers scheduling, notes and payments.
